Locked out of my Apple ID.. but with a twist

so here's the thing.. when I go to update my apps (for example, lets say the Apple ID I'm currently signed into is janedoe@yahoo..) my phone will ask me to sign into (ex) johndoe@gmail .. and I cannot update any of my apps bc I'm locked out of a totally different account! Ok soooo that John Doe email is a very old email of mine! I've been an Apple user for YEARS, since I was 13, and I'm currently twenty. I'm thinking maybe I changed my ID a very long time ago, but I no longer have access to that email. I cannot update any of my apps, and it's terribly annoying. I haven't had any probables with the phone itself until I updated to Ios10.

Apps purchased with one Apple ID need to be updated with the same ID. The Apple ID email address and password combination should work even if you no longer have access to the email address. See https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid. It might be possible to recover access to the old ID if you can contact the support team and they can find a way to validate your ownership of that account.

You have a couple of options: you can go to iforgot.apple.com and try to recover the password to the earlier Apple ID account or you can call Apple Support at 1-800-MY-APPLE and they can try to help you recover the password.

However, you cannot merge any apps or content from one Apple ID to another, so you need to balance what you want to do. Is the more recent Apple ID the one that has the majority of your content - pictures, music, apps, etc? If so, you might want to just abandon the apps you had under the earlier Apple ID.

However, you have to make a choice. You cannot have both Apple IDs on the phone.
